Max Mertz was a German graphic artist and painter. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden under professors Wilhelm Rudolf (artist) and Karl Albiker, a student of Auguste Rodin. He was awarded the Albert Weisgerber Prize for Fine Arts in 1961 and the Saar Prize for the Arts in 1968, the most important prize in the field of culture in Saarland.
