Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944)

Wassily Kandinsky
In this work, Kandinsky achieves syntheticity in his language: geometric shapes and saturated colours come together in a rhythm similar to a musical score. Red, black, yellow and ultramarine sound like chords entering into dialogue with each other. What emerges here is not an image of the objective world, but pure ‘living abstraction’ — the plastic equivalent of a symphony.

"Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another purposively, to cause vibrations in the soul." — Wassily Kandinsky
